Established in 1957, the Harry Ransom Center is one of the preeminent cultural institutions in the world, with a major emphasis on the literature and culture of America, Great Britain, and France. The Center contains 36 million manuscripts, 1 million rare books, 5 million photographs, 100,000 works of art and design, and major collections relating to the performing arts and film.
The Ransom Center's graduate internship programs provide participants with experience in the nature and operations of a major humanities research center. This experience will benefit interns in advanced graduate studies, academic research, and in possible career options.
The Center supports two internship programs: one program in the Office of the Associate Librarian and one in the Department of Technology and Digital Services. Eligible candidates may apply for an internship in either or both areas, but each program requires a separate application.
Eligibility: Interns must have completed an undergraduate degree and must be enrolled nine hours a semester (three hours in the summer session) in a Master's or Doctoral program at The University of Texas at Austin at the time the appointment takes effect.
Terms of Appointment: Interns will be appointed on a semester basis for one year and may apply to renew the internship for a second year. Preference is given to candidates who will be enrolled at the University long enough to complete a two-year term. A commitment to work 20 hours per week in 3- or 4-hour blocks of time is preferred. All internship positions are security sensitive.
Interns must hold a Bachelor's degree and will be classified as Graduate Research Assistants at an approximate annual stipend of $14,000. This is a benefits-eligible position, and students will be eligible to apply for tuition assistance.
