Combined from private collections and state agencies, the Art Collection holds over 3000 posters published in the United States, Europe and Latin America during WWI, WWII, and the Spanish Civil War. The collection also contains early, 20th century travel posters from a variety of nations. Some leading artists of the day represented in the war collections are José Bardasano, Charles Livingston Bull, Howard Chandler Christi, James Montgomery Flagg, Joseph Pennell, Ramón Puyol, Parilla, Norman Rockwell, and Adolph Tridler. The War posters feature various subjects such as recruitment, industrial production, the home front, rationing, the Red Cross, and war bonds. Many Spanish Civil War posters in the collection were produced in bold, modernist designs for various labor unions and political parties in support of the Republic or Popular Front.
