The Art Collection
Art materials may be viewed in the visual materials area of the Harry Ransom Center's Reading and Viewing Rooms. To view materials on Saturday, you must obtain the consent of the art collection staff and make your request at least a day in advance. Additional notice may be required, and access may be limited depending on the kind of material and its size, condition, and storage location. Please consult the policy on access to sculpture and paintings.
Please note: A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to pull art materials to the Reading Room. Some materials may be restricted from viewing. To make an appointment or reserve materials for the Reading Room, please contact the art staff.
Onsite researchers can also access the collection via in-house databases and inventories in the Reading and Viewing Rooms.
To search for artists' books in the Ransom Center's collections, use the UT Library Catalog: type in "artists' books" and limit the results to the Harry Ransom Center.
Please note: Ransom Center staff cannot appraise works of art. You should consult your local gallery or certified appraiser. The latter may be found on the American Society of Appraisers website.
