Bibles
"The Temptation of Adam," from an
extra-illustrated copy of an English Bible.
E.A. Parsons Collection.
The Ransom Center owns several hundred Bibles, including primarily non-English translations that formerly belonged to the British and Foreign Bible Society. Other collections here include Bibles—as the basic text of Judaism and Christianity, as works of literature, and as milestones of printing and scholarship. The following versions or copies may be of particular interest:
- Early manuscript versions, including two from the 13th century in the Pre-1700 Manuscripts collection
- The Gutenberg Bible (ca. 1455)
- The King James Bible (1611)—ten copies of various printings, three of these being in the Pforzheimer Collection
- Many fine-press editions such as the Doves Press Bible
Registration for the Flair Symposium, November 13-15, 2008, is now open. Registration is open to the public with a limited number of spaces available to students at a discounted price. Members of the Harry Ransom Center also receive a discount.
