Comedias Sueltas (Spanish Drama)

"Comedias sueltas" or "sueltas" are short plays published in Spain from the late 17th through the 19th century in small pamphlet formats. The Ransom Center owns some 14,000 of these, mostly concentrated in the later part of this period. The collection is currently being cataloged with assistance from a Hidden Collections grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; there is also a card index and a printed catalog (M.V. Boyer, The Texas Collection of Comedias Sueltas: A Descriptive Bibliography [Boston, 1978]) of a portion of the collection.
