An exploration of traditional hand papermaking techniques and local materials used in the region of Central Burma (Union of Myanmar) and Northern Thailand was undertaken in the fall of 1991. The local materials used were rice straw, bamboo straw, and mulberry (also called Saa, Zaa or Kozo) fiber. Traditional techniques were beginning to loose ground to chemical and industrial production. The article ends with a comparative chart of methods observed.
