John Scanlan

John McAllen Scanlan is Of Counsel with Scanlan, Buckle, and Young, P.C. He has been with the firm—then Scanlan, Buckle & Fleckman—as partner or principal since 1975. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Scanlan subsequently earned an LLB with The University of Texas at Austin and an LLM from Harvard Law School. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a communications officer. Since 2003, he devotes time assisting with his son's gallery, Verve Fine Arts, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Scanlan has been and remains active in the Austin community, with a record of public and community service that includes several committees, task forces, focus groups, and a demonstrated commitment to the Austin area environment. Current board service includes the Texas League of Conservation Voters and Austin Public Radio Corporation, and he has served on the board of Texas Arts Alliance, LCRA, and the Environment Defense Fund, New York.
