UNCLE JUNE
AND THE ANIMAL IN THE WOODS

June, give me your specks a minute! And let me wipe ’em
off with this dish rag! I forgot to tell you this morning that your
specks fell off the wash stand last night on the floor and I spit
snuff-juice on ’em . . . . you saw the pattern that had been
formed on your specs and thought you saw a bear.

AUNT DICY
AND THE PEACH SEEDS

“Humph, replied Aunt Dicy trembling with anger,
Filthy? Just look at them peach seeds you threw on the ground how the
flies are swarming all around them and lighting on them. And see how
clean that snuff-spit is - they never bother it.”
