Invention takes a lot of work!

Before Gutenberg printed his Bible, he had to make all the tools he would need.

He needed dark ink that would stick to paper. He had to create a printing press and all the metal letters that were used with the press. He bought paper from papermakers far away from his print shop in Germany.

Like many inventors, Gutenberg combined new tools and ideas with old methods to create a new way of making books.
