The Search For Scarlett
Joan Bennett

Joan Bennett, sister of actors Barbara and Constance Bennett, quickly rose to Hollywood stardom beginning in 1929 with Bulldog Drummond opposite Ronald Colman. Her beauty and versatility made her a favorite in such films as Little Women, The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, The Man in the Iron Mask, Man Hunt and Scarlett Street.

Bennett was originally a blonde but had changed her hair color a year before this test for a film role. Her new look proved popular with audiences.

Dear Danny:

In connection with Scarlett: We're getting so close to the starting date of the picture
that I'm commencing to grow fearful of losing any of our really good possibilities
and I think we should make clear to Hepburn, Arthur, Joan Bennett and Loretta Young that
they are in the small group of final candidates; and on my return I hope you will be
able to tell me immediately the situation in relation to each of these.

I think the final choice must be out of this list plus Goddard and our new girl, plus
any last minute new girl possibility that may come along.
