Indescribably Odd Tidbits From The Collections
Rock and Roll
James B. Newton was not just a University of Texas at Austin professor of drama. An artist and art director in Hollywood, he designed sets and costumes for television and theatrical productions, including rock concerts. This stage design for Alice Cooper's 1986 Scare Tour is one of eleven set models in his Ransom Center archive. The mechanical arms in the box model can be manipulated with a series of strings connected to a pull ring; a tiny audience lining front stage provides scale to the contraption.
