Scope and Contents

Established in 1977, the American Book Review is "dedicated to reviewing books from independent, small, and university presses." This collection of production material for the American Book Review, virtually complete from vol. 9 (1987) through vol. 19 (1998), arrived at the Ransom Center in 1998, together with the records of Fiction Collective 2 and the papers of Ronald Sukenick, former publisher of the Review.

The production material contains edited typescripts, editors' notes, and reviewer's comment sheets. There are no correspondence files. Published issues are provided for each volume; however no production materials are available for Vols. 1-8 (1977-1986). In several instances where there is no production material present, only the published issue is provided and these entries are marked "issue only" in the following container list.

A complete set of issues for Vol. 1 through Vol. 17, no. 4 was transferred to the HRC Library.
