Mitch Vernick

Mitch Vernick has resided in Austin with his wife Johanna for the past nine years, following nearly 25 years in the Chicago area. Professionally, Mitch has spent his career in the financial services industry, with a focus in commercial lending and private equity investing. Among other positions, Mitch was President of Transamerica Finance Corporation and Vice Chairman of Heller Financial, Inc. He currently is an advisor and investor with several Private Equity firms and sits on the boards of several of their portfolio companies.

Mitch has been a member of the Advisory Committee at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan for 15 years and taught Corporate Finance in the MBA program at DePaul University in Chicago as an Adjunct Professor.

Mitch and Johanna are parents of a 26 year old daughter who is a UT graduate and works in advertising in Richmond, VA, and a 24 year son who lives with them in Austin and is on the autism spectrum. Their son has inspired them to focus some of their philanthropic activity in the autism area, including founding an autism therapy center in the Chicago area for children and a program in Austin through Creative Action which focuses on young adults with autism.

Mitch has a BA in Political Science and Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
