Just hours after his victory, Richard Nixon holds "a pre-dawn, super-secret, pow-wow of Republican medicine men from across the nation" to ask their acceptance of Spiro Agnew as his running mate. Among the attendees: Barry M. Goldwater, Paul J. Fannin, Thomas E. Dewey, Strom Thurmond, Karl E. Mundt, and the Reverend Billy Graham. August 1968.
