Audiovisual Guidelines
Access is provided in the Reading Room to digitized versions of original media formats. The following are guidelines for consulting those copies of analog materials.
- Some media is viewable only in the Center's Reading Room on provided computers. Explore the Audiovisual Recordings page to learn more about what you may be able to access during your visit.
- If a digital copy does not exist, patrons may request digitization for subsequent access in the Reading Room.
- Due to copyright and donor restrictions, some recordings are only available onsite and may not be distributed, even for research purposes. Time varies for each request. Contact readingroom@hrc.utexas.edu to learn more.
- Reference copies may be ordered, upon confirmation by the researcher of their obtaining written permission from all applicable rights holders.
- The Ransom Center will not duplicate any recordings at risk of damage by the digitization process.
- The order form to request digitization can be found here: Duplication Order Form. Duplication fees will apply.
- With the exception of some audiovisual materials publicly accessible via the Center's Digital Collections, all materials accessible for viewing in the Reading Room are under copyright and may not be reproduced without permission.
- Laptops may be used to take notes while consulting audiovisual materials but may not be otherwise used to make a copy or record the materials.
- Curatorial staff and/or Reading Room staff can advise you regarding availability of particular collections: readingroom@hrc.utexas.edu. Additional information on sound recordings: Research Guide: Harry Ransom Center: How to Search for Sound Recordings
