Conditions governing use of or extensive quotation from Harry Ransom Center materials:

1. The Center seeks to learn how its collections are being used and requests that researchers provide notification of forthcoming or recent publications using this form. For collection materials not in the public domain, authorization to publish, use, quote extensively from, or exhibit facsimiles must be obtained in advance and in writing from the Harry Ransom Center by completing this form. This agreement shall remain in effect for the life of the project. Notification of intent forms are required for later editions of the same publication and for derivative products.

2. Researchers are responsible for determining the copyright status of collection materials prior to publication, including publication online or via social media platforms. If copyright law or other restrictions protect materials being used, researchers are responsible for obtaining necessary permission from any rights holders. Researchers making or receiving reproductions of collection material accept full responsibility for any infringement of copyright and should seek legal counsel if they have questions about copyright liability. The Center maintains the online WATCH database identifying some copyright holders, a guide to locating those not listed, as well as other copyright resources, including a list of collections for which the Center holds copyright.

3. For collection materials not in the public domain, a publication or use fee may be applicable, in addition to any fee for reproduction or that might be assessed by a copyright holder. The Center charges for reproduction, and for some publications and uses, on a partial cost-recovery basis. Fees offset a small portion of the Center's costs associated with processing, preserving, and servicing of its collections. Fees are subject to change and will be reviewed every two years. Fees cover non-exclusive, one-time use only unless otherwise indicated and are to be paid in advance.

4. The following credit line should be used: Harry Ransom Center, The University of Texas at Austin.

5. The proposed publication must result in a suitable presentation of the original image. Superimposition of text, cropping, bleeding, addition of color, or other alterations are not allowed.

6. Recipients of Harry Ransom Center research fellowships should acknowledge the sponsor of their particular fellowship.

7. Reproductions provided by the Center in any format may not be further reproduced, sold, shared, or given to another person, company, or institution for any purpose, without the written permission of the Harry Ransom Center.

8. The user will defend and hold harmless the Harry Ransom Center and the University of Texas System, its Board of Regents, The University of Texas at Austin, its officers, employees and agents against all claims, demands, costs, and expenses including attorneys' fees incurred by copyright infringements or any other legal or regulatory cause of action arising from use of Harry Ransom Center materials.

9. Email a full citation for publication in any medium that makes use of Center materials to reference@austin.utexas.edu for the Center's records.
