Ransom Center Receives Publications Design Awards

The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin received two design awards in the 2006 American Association of Museums (AAM) national Museum Publication Design Competition.

The Ransom Center earned first place for poster design for its "Technologies of Writing" exhibition poster and honorable mention for its fall 2005 and spring 2006 program calendars. Leslie Ernst, graphic designer with the university's Office of Public Affairs, created the winning designs.

"This is such a great honor, especially considering our competition," says Christine Lee, marketing manager at the Ransom Center. "I think these awards reflect the focus and effort we've applied to our marketing materials and the visual identity of the Ransom Center."

The Ransom Center was the only Texas institution to earn a first-place award. Other Texas institutions that were honored included the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin. Judged by museum professionals, publishers and designers, the competition recognizes excellence in overall design.

The winning designs will be displayed during the 2006 AAM Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo in Boston from April 27 to May 1. A list of winning institutions, along with images of their designs, will be featured in a special section of the July/August issue of Museum News.

The "Technologies of Writing" exhibition runs through Aug. 6 at the Ransom Center.
