Booker Prize-Winning Novelist Marlon James To Speak at The University of Texas at Austin

EVENT: The Harry Ransom Center presents novelist Marlon James, author of the Booker Prize-winning "A Brief History of Seven Killings." James will speak about why he writes. The event is a Harry Ransom Lecture sponsored by the University Co-op.

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Jessen Auditorium in Homer Rainey Hall at The University of Texas at Austin, 21st and Whitis streets.

WHO MAY ATTEND: The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and a line will form upon arrival of the first patron.

BACKGROUND: New York Times critic Michiko Kakutani described "A Brief History of Seven Killings" as "epic in every sense of that word: sweeping, mythic, over-the-top, colossal and dizzyingly complex. It's also raw, dense, violent, scalding, darkly comic, exhilarating and exhausting." Other novels written by James include "John Crow's Devil" and "The Book of Night Women."

Signed books will be available for purchase at the event.

Priority entry is available to members of the Ransom Center (one seat per membership card) who arrive by 5:50 p.m. Members arriving after 6 p.m. will join the general queue.
