Ransom Center collections are represented by a variety of finding aids, catalogs, and databases. Because substantial portions of the Center's collections are uncataloged or have catalogs that are inaccessible to web users, we recommend contacting a curator in your area of interest to insure a complete search. We also suggest that you full-text search or browse the Ransom Center collection guide in your subject area(s) of interest.

Archives and Manuscripts

The finding aids database allows access to inventories of archival material in the manuscripts, photography, performing arts, film, and art collections. There is a specialized database for the medieval and early modern manuscripts collection. Please note that some archival collections are uncataloged, minimally cataloged, or have catalog records not accessible on the website.

Books and Periodicals

Most of our books and periodicals are accessible through the University of Texas Libraries online catalog. Searches may be limited to Ransom Center holdings, and specialized searches of former owner, printer/publisher, or binder are available. The periodicals database allows users to determine exactly which issues of a periodical title are held by the Center.

In addition, there are specialized databases for the Kraus map collection, the Kraus opera libretti collection, the Texas Collection of Comedias Sueltas, and a downloadable catalog of the Aldine imprints collection. Contact a staff member to search holdings of dealer and auction catalogs.

Digital Collections

The Digital Collections (CONTENTdm) page features a cross-section of digitized collection material from the Center's book, manuscript, art, photography, film, and performing arts collections.

In addition to the finding aids search, there is a specialized database of the David O. Selznick Collection. See also the resources for Costumes and Personal Effects below.

Performing Arts

In addition to the finding aids search, please consult the specialized databases for the Norman Bel Geddes Papers, the theater biography collection, and London playbills.

Costumes and Personal Effects

The costumes and personal effects database provides item-level descriptions, including images, of cataloged costumes and personal effects collections. In addition, there is a specialized database of the Robert De Niro costumes and personal effects. Please note that many costumes and personal effects collections are uncataloged or have inventories not searchable on the website.

In addition to the finding aids search, please see the photography collections database. A specialized database for portions of the New York Journal-American photographic morgue is also available.
