The Woodward and Bernstein Waterate Papers

The Washington Post

Dahlberg story : 2 pages

1 August 1972

Bernstein and Woodward's Washington Post story detailing the discovery by the Dade County Florida District Attorney that a $25,000 cashier's check from Nixon's Midwest campaign finance chairman Kenneth Dahlberg had been deposited into the bank account of one of the Watergate burglars. As Bernstein talked to the District Attorney and viewed the bank account records in Florida, Woodward contacted Dahlberg by telephone. Dahlberg told Woodward he "gave it [the check] to Stans," referring to Maurice Stans, the chief fund raiser for Nixon's reelection campaign. From this story onward, all of Bernstein and Woodward's Watergate pieces appeared under their joint byline.
