Harry Ransom Center Hosts "Robert De Niro Film Series"

EVENT: The Harry Ransom Center hosts the "Robert De Niro Film Series"

WHEN: 7 p.m., four dates between Oct. 8 and Oct. 29.

WHERE: Harry Ransom Center, 21st and Guadalupe streets.

BACKGROUND: In 2006, actor, director, producer Robert De Niro donated his collection of film-related materials to the Harry Ransom Center. With materials from the late 1960s to the present, the archive includes annotated scripts, notes, research materials and an extensive collection of costumes De Niro wore in his films.

The following films will be screened in the series:

Oct. 8: Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather II" (1974), starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Robert Duvall.

Oct. 15: Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" (1976), starring De Niro, Jodie Foster and Harvey Keitel.

Oct. 22: Michael Cimono's "The Deer Hunter" (1978), starring De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep.

Oct. 29: Kenneth Branagh's "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" (1994), starring De Niro, Branagh and Helena Bonham-Carter.

The screenings are free and open to the public. Ransom Center Associate Curator of Film Steve Wilson will introduce each film and discuss selected items from the De Niro collection at the screenings.

Doors open 30 minutes in advance, and seating is limited.
