Watergate-Related Events, Panel with Redford, Woodward and Bernstein Celebrate 35th Anniversary of Film "All the President's Men"

EVENT: In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the release of the film "All the President's Men," the Ransom Center and the Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) Presidential Library will host a series of Watergate-related events.

WHEN: 2 p.m. on April 16; 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on April 21

WHERE: LBJ Library at The University of Texas at Austin

BACKGROUND: The Woodward and Bernstein Watergate papers reside at the Ransom Center, and materials related to the film and Watergate scandal are on display as part of the Center's exhibition "Culture Unbound: Collecting in the Twenty-First Century."

A small group of materials from the Ransom Center's Woodward and Bernstein Watergate papers will also be on display at the LBJ Library from April 15 through April 29. Titled "All the President's Men: Newsroom to Big Screen," the display will include reporting notes, book drafts, film scripts, the contract signing over film rights to Robert Redford and other materials that trace the Watergate story from reporting to book to film.

The Ransom Center and the LBJ Library present a screening of "All the President's Men" (1976). Admission is free, and no tickets are required.

Thursday, April 21, 2 p.m. in the LBJ Library Auditorium
A panel of prominent journalists and commentators will explore the question "Could the media break a story like Watergate today?" Panelists include Peter Baker of The New York Times, Dana Priest of The Washington Post, Mark Miller of The Texas Tribune, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. The panel will be moderated by Glenn Frankel, director of the School of Journalism at The University of Texas at Austin.

Space is limited, and tickets are required for both events on April 21. Limit two tickets per person. Line forms upon arrival of the first patron, and doors open 45 minutes in advance of the program. Please note that tickets specifically for the 2 p.m. event are valid only for this event and cannot be used for the 6 p.m. event.

Tickets for both events are free and will be available beginning Monday, April 4, at the following locations:

University Union Ticket Office (UNB 4.300): Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

A stand-by line will form at 5:15 p.m. Just before 6 p.m., stand-by guests will be admitted into the auditorium to fill any empty seats. Admission is not guaranteed.
