Ransom Center and Austin Public Library Friends Foundation Partner on Discussion Series Relating to Exhibition

Event: The Harry Ransom Center and the Austin Public Library Friends Foundation partner on a discussion series of books by authors that have related materials in the Ransom Center's exhibition "Culture Unbound: Collecting in the Twenty-First Century."

Where: City of Austin library branches

Background: Beginning Feb. 1, the Ransom Center's exhibition "Culture Unbound: Collecting in the Twenty-First Century" commemorates the Ransom Center's hunt for archives that will capture the imagination, invigorate scholarly research and deepen our understanding of culture. Highlighting major acquisitions of the past decade, the exhibition demonstrates how the Center builds a collection of interrelated archives that strengthen and give context to one another. Austin Public Library Friends Foundation will host a series of discussion of books by authors that have related materials in "Culture Unbound." These discussions will occur at various library branches.

The series will include the following meetings:

Feb. 16, Manchaca Branch, 6:30 p.m., David Foster Wallace's "Consider the Lobster and Other Essays."

Feb. 23, Little Walnut Creek Branch, 7 p.m., Jayne Anne Phillips's "Lark & Termite."

March 8, Windsor Park Branch, 7 p.m., David Mamet's "American Buffalo" and other books featured in "Culture Unbound."

March 23, North Village Branch, 7 p.m., Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried."

March 29, Twin Oaks Branch, 7 p.m., Brian Moore's "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne."

May 11, University Hills Branch, 6:30 p.m., Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's "All the President's Men" and a showing of the film.

July 18, Hampton Branch at Oak Hill, 7 p.m., Julian Barnes's "Talking It Over."
